In the summer of 1999, I was living and working in Somerville, MA. Curious about the yoga studio down the street, I walked in to take a class. It was the original, iconic Baptiste Power Yoga. That first class was amazing, so I went back all summer.

Returning to college for my senior year of soccer, I noticed a difference on the field: less self-critical, more relaxed, confident. With my newly found mindfulness practice, I achieved goals and got to levels of the game that were never imaginable without yoga, as it enhanced my athletic performance and focus.

In the more than twenty years since, yoga has been a constant and consistent source of wellness and health. From playing on the field, to staying centered on the sidelines while coaching, to dealing with cancer- yoga is there for me.

My teaching is influenced by Masaaki Okamura and Coeli Marsh, the founder of the Teachers Study Project. I completed Level I Journey Into Power with Baron Baptiste, where I learned meditation and philosophy. I deepened my understanding of Baptiste methodology in workshops with Claire Este-McDonald and Brandon Compagnone. In 2020, I became a Qigong-Infused Yoga Instructor.

Since I began practicing, I have witnessed a fringe exercise system that I love become a worldwide phenomenon. It is exciting to be a part of this global community of teachers and students dedicated to healing. As an athlete who used yoga during my professional career, it is gratifying to see the practice emerge as a primary tool not only in strength and conditioning but also sports psychology. 300 million people have discovered and taken part in this art form.

I love the practice that I share. It looks a lot different than that first vinyasa flow in 1999. It is my own, which is as yoga should be.
